Abstract

The goals of language learning and teaching encompass not only linguistic proficiency but also cultural education. Developing a learner's communicative competence involves effectively utilizing the linguistic system within diverse communicative contexts. Communication extends beyond mere knowledge acquisition ; it requires the ability to apply this knowledge appropriately across various situations.

Analyzing the cultural dimension of lexicography necessitates examining the mechanisms that reveal the interplay between the intrinsic structure of the language system and the cultural elements assimilated from society, which are tied to the cultural perception of language. This raises pertinent questions : How can we comprehend the foundational relationship between language and culture? What are the mechanisms of language acquisition, operation, and development that render it suitable for teaching to foreign learners?

This research aims to illuminate the role of culture in language learning and teaching, applicable to both first and second languages. It seeks to explore the nature of the relationship between language and culture and to understand how cultural knowledge facilitates language learning.

To address these inquiries, a descriptive approach was employed, focusing on defining the relationship between culture and language, followed by delineating the role of cultural lexicography in the learning and teaching of Arabic to non-native speakers.
