Abstract

The concepts of modernity have marked a significant transformation in the field of literature across its various forms. Some forms of literature have faded, while others have emerged, opening broader horizons for addressing contemporary issues. These concepts have contributed to reshaping perspectives on literature and its study, introducing new approaches and diverse interpretations, such as Ferdinand de Saussure's studies and those that followed. These approaches have broken the constraints that confined literature within itself while preserving its distinctive characteristics through its engagement with contemporary issues.

These diverse concepts and sciences have, in one way or another, created "artistic and psychological" bonds within the communicative process—between the novelist, who carries the burdens of their lived reality, and the relationship that initiates the act of writing, and between the writer and the reader, establishing an impact between both ends of the message. As previously mentioned, these sciences and concepts, being pivotal markers, have contributed to the emergence of new writing styles and various genres, reflecting the universality, diversity, and global impact of literature.

Migration literature is one of the contemporary writing styles that emerged under varying political and social conditions. It addresses writers who were forcibly displaced from their homelands, enduring all forms of oppression and humiliation until they were compelled to leave. This phenomenon has distinctly influenced the psychological dimension of these authors' writing styles, capturing attention. Their pens are filled with expressions of nostalgia, longing, and even pain.

In this paper, we aim to uncover the images of estrangement and the psychological impacts it carries within the narrative of the Palestinian self, taking The Cities of Boredom as a model for analysis.
