Throughout Islamic history, there has been the emergence of deviant sects and groups that rejected the Prophetic traditions (Sunnah) and its use as a basis for evidence of Shariah. Among them were those who explicitly rejected the Prophetic tradition, calling for its complete abandonment, claiming that it is redundant and that everything needed was already found in the Quran. Another group acknowledged the authority of some aspects of the Prophetic tradition while rejecting others. Both of these positions undoubtedly deviated from the straight conduit. These groups that denied the Prophetic traditions and criticised them were on the verge of disappearing until a faction of orientalists and their followers emerged. The Orientalists played a role in casting doubts, suspects and scepticism on the authenticity of the Prophetic traditions, being well aware that the Sunnah constitutes the secondary foundation of Islamic legislation. If they could succeed in their efforts, then the path would be open to casting doubt on the Quran. Based on the study of secondary data that consists of classical and contemporary manuscripts and scientific journals through library works and online databases, the study aims to employ an augmentative study through a qualitative method to prove the authenticity and the dire necessity of prophetic traditions in Islamic Shariah.
