الملخص

The literal meaning of the word Nahw is path, method or direction. The science of Nahw focuses on the correctness of the Arabic language. It discusses various rules to protect Arabic language from grammatical errors. Through these rules, Nahw serves as a guide to preserve the linguistic purity of Arabic. It’s necessity   is unparalleled in understanding the true essence of the Holy Qur'an and Hadith. The renowned scholar and jurist, Imam Abul Qasim al-Qushayri, used these grammatical rules to elucidate spiritual realities, paving the way for a new branch of knowledge: Spiritual Grammar or Al-Nahw al-Qulub (The Grammar of Hearts). His pioneering work served as a source of inspiration for subsequent grammarians and Sufi mystics, such as ‘Izz ibn Abdus-Salam, Ibn Maymun, and Ibn Aziba, some of whom contributed writings on this subject. In this article, the spiritual perspectives of Imam al-Qushayri have been analyzed based on the spiritual explanations of Arabic grammar provided by him. His views have been presented descriptively and analytically. Additionally, numerous examples have been cited from his two seminal works on spiritual grammar, Al-Nahw al-Qulub al-Saghir and Al-Nahw al-Qulub al-Kabir. The researcher believes this study will inspire individuals to simultaneously engage in linguistic sophistication and spiritual purification.
